Summer Seminar II: General Epistles

Our New Testament seminars are designed to be thorough overviews that will provide the student with the necessary tools for a lifelong study of the Bible.  We have a five goals for this class:

  1. To worship God through growing in our understanding of His truth.
  2. To develop an understanding of the background (authorship, historical context, etc.) of each general epistle of the New Testament.
  3. To see the structure of each epistle and to have a firm grasp on the content of each epistle.
  4. To gain an appreciation of the theological emphasis of each author and its contribution to the whole of Scripture.
  5. To understand the various approaches to and commentaries of the general epistles.

This seminar is being taught by Dr. Brian Vickers. Dr. Vickers serves as an Associate Professor of New Testament Interpretation at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary where he has been since 2004. He currently serves as the Assistant Editor of The Southern Baptist Journal of Theology and is actively involved in leading short-term mission trips and teaching overseas. Dr. Vickers has written Jesus’ Blood and Righteousness: Paul’s Theology of Imputation, and has published articles in Trinity Journal, The Southern Baptist Journal of Theology, Eusebia, Gospel Witness, and The New Holman Bible Dictionary. He is a member of The Evangelical Theological Society and The Institute for Biblical Research.

Brian grew up at Randolph Street Church and has been a great friend of our ministry. He is married to Denise and they have one daughter, Jamie.
