During Christmas break 2010 two van loads of teens and college students were scheduled to minister in New York City with several mercy ministries. Due to the three feet of snow received by New York City that week, the trip was rescheduled for June of 2011.
The team of 11 Randolph Streeters left Sunday morning, June 12th, 2011 and returned safely on Thursday evening, June 16th 2011. The purpose of the trip? To expose our teens to another urban context that they might see the great need for the glory of Christ to be known more in our own city.
From Monday–Wednesday morning the group served at Saint Paul's House (www.saintpaulshouse.org). This is an organization associated with Tim Keller's Hope for New York (www.hfny.org). The group served breakfast to the homeless, interacted with guests, cleaned, organized, brought the morning devotional, shared and showed the gospel.
Several afternoons and evenings brought an opportunity to see the city: Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, Brooklyn Bridge, Time Square, Chinatown, Central Park, a Yankees Game, NY style pizza, Ground Zero, miles of Subway, the M&M Factory, Museum of Natural History, and more. The needs of the people met along the way left an impact on the lives of our teens.
Out of respect for the guests at St. Paul's House, we were not permitted to take pictures. However, watching the teens interact, serve and love the men and women who came through St. Paul's House will forever be a blessing on the memory of the leaders.
